~Weeks 36-41~

If you're nervous opening this post thinking I'm about to post 42 photos I've taken while playing catch-up with the little photography challenge I've given myself this year, be comforted- I've done almost as poorly taking daily photographs as I have done blogging and unless I counted wrong, it's only 27.

But there are more than normal obviously, so let's jump right in:

9/2- No photograph.

9/3- Freezing corn.

9/4- Who needs toys?

9/5- Baby lettuces.

9/6- A bushel of heirlooms.

9/7- Benjamin Bat, a character from the Arthur Scott Bailey tales. The children insist upon reading every single one. I do believe we'll never get done.

9/8- Silly girl. Just as crazy as her mama. Maybe not quite.

9/9 & 9/10- No photographs.

9/11- And we have pigs! It's about time too. We decided to try a heritage breed this year, the acclaimed Berkshires, and let me tell you if you think you'd like to try to get your hands on heritage feeder pigs next year, start shopping breeders NOW. We started looking probably in March and it took us this long to find some.

9/12- The hired help. I can always find someone to do the stirring in the kitchen.

9/13-9/16- No photographs.

9/17- Turkey Proudfoot (another Arthur Scott Bailey literary allusion) strutting his stuff.

I love having turkeys. Except for the big, sometimes watery "droppings." And that every fall the pasture doesn't please them any longer and their favorite place to hang out is the deck. Or the front porch.  With their big, sometimes watery "droppings." But I enjoy the chucking and gobbling and strutting and flying up onto the steel roof of the barn and falling off and the big beautiful speckled eggs and peeping poults, oh my.

9/18- Let the fall sewing season officially begin.

I'm so glad when I started that I didn't know that it would take a month to finish all I set out to do.

(I know this because as of right now, I'm one zipper, side seam, and hemline short of being done. In fact would have been done had it not been for that I broke the zipper during installation last night and need to go to town and buy another.) Mostly I've done thrift store alterations for the girls, some mending, but I also made two new skirts for myself (my favorite full skirt pattern here because trust me, if you're going to wear skirts on the homestead, they need to be full. I learned this the hard way jumping a ditch in an A-line. Went right down in. Right in front of Bill. It was so embarrassing) and a few tops from a pattern I'm pleased with and will share a review of sometime soon. Of course, now that I've made myself some clothes, I'll find out that we're expecting. I love getting the question, "Do you know what causes that?" Yes. Yes I do. Adding clothing to my wardrobe. Without fail every time.

9/19- No photograph.

9/20- Was pretty much feeling the same way myself, yet so thankful we decided on a whim to take a break from it all and go on a real, bona fide vacation for which planning was getting underway.

9/21- I think swiss chard is my new favorite vegetable. It is so easy to grow and hasn't given me a day of trouble. No diseases, no bugs. And the rainbow variety is so beautiful. Plus it is so good cooked, tossed in a little bacon grease, and sprinkled with sea salt. Mmmm...

9/22-My little man is FOUR! To think he was four months old when I started to blog.

(And with that thought began a "to blog or not to blog" crisis in my mind. Do I want my kids to remember me sitting in front of this screen? Do the numerous blessings of blogging outweigh the time investment? Or is it really just that I had intended not to make "blogger" one of my real-life titles and somehow virtually everyone I know has found it and knowing that bothers me? I mean now everyone knows I don't wash my hair. That's just humiliating :) Whatever it is, I've been struggling with it for quite some time and while I think I've got myself straightened out right now only time will tell.)

9/23- Making some natural concoctions. A tooth powder, deodorant, first aid salve, anti-itch salve, and eucalyptus chest rub. Well now everyone knows I don't brush my teeth with commercial toothpaste either! Really it's a smart thing to do.

9/24- No photograph.

9/25- Harvesting the few sunflower heads the goldfinches didn't beat me to.

9/26 & 9/27- No photographs.

9/28- 9 people, 3 suitcases, 2 trashbags, 3 plastic grocery bag for toiletries, food, and baby supplies, 1 box for shoes, and 1 cooler loaded with frozen breakfasts and dinners enough to last 9 days in Maine.

9/29- Day two on the road and the selected secular reading material has succintly nailed the secret sin residing in my heart and causing such discontent in my life. Lust for acres of acreage.

9/30- "It's raining, it's pouring." Our first full day in Maine. We tried to go to church this day, but the one we chose wasn't there and choice number two was over an hour away. I was pretty disappointed because I was really looking forward to going.

10/1- Chicken of the sea. We had an adorable video of Rebekah trying to wrangle seagulls much the same way she does the chickens at home. Of course, we lost it. It was so cute!

10/2- Pagoo becomes real.

10/3- She loves the beach. Wants to move there when she is a grown up lady, has a husband and a baby girl named Jane. Can't really blame her.

10/4- A rainy day leads to a 19 hour Monopoly game. Knowing I can't commit to that lengthy of a game, I sat out and remembered why we don't own Monopoly.

10/5- A breezy beach is no place for a fevering baby so we took a fall drive.

10/6- Heading home- Day one of two. Massachusetts was so beautiful.

10/7- But New York was even more amazing. It is a really wonderful fall this year!

10/8- Getting back into the swing of things.

10/9- Killing frost and the beginning of the end.

10/10- 10/13- No photographs.

There. All caught up. Did you hang in there with me? That's why I love you so!
