It's been eerily quiet here at my little corner of the web. 

I'll try not to apologize for my absence, though I want to. 

Life has been full and springtime for the homesteader is the second most busy time of the year and like I said last week on Facebook, "less time writing about it, more time living it." (You might catch me posting blips over there more often during the hustle & bustle of the busy season.) A fact you might see illustrated in my photography from the last two weeks... many missed days. I'm able to take a break from the demands of afternoon weeding and sneak in a moment of writing today while I watch over my sleeping babe resting on my lap. Poor lamb is dealing with a bit of nasal congestion and it's been trying for my mama's heart to see her struggling to keep up with the choking. Little sweetie has been handling it so patiently and cheerfully. 

4/29- Nothing

 4/30- I see a missed opportunity for foraging dandelion greens here.

5/1- Nothing

5/2- First day of hardening off my seedlings.

5/3- I've been searching for a Quiche Lorraine recipe for an untold number of years. Forgotten Skills of Cooking has ended that search. Oh my was this delicious!! (Maybe, I'll share it tomorrow. Maybe.)

5/4-Snowflake has a new resting spot. Time to fill that area of the kitchen herb planter before it becomes a little more than a resting spot.

5/5- Feeding thinned seedlings to the chicks. 

 5/6;  5/7;  5/8- Nothing

5/9-Dollie. 

I've a Rosey, Bitty, Goosey, and she's my Dollie.

5/10- This was such a treat! I don't spend nearly as much time bird watching as I used to (unless poultry counts) and we've enjoyed a nesting pair of Baltimore Orioles on our little property for the last several years, but never so up close! She seemed to think that the coco fibers from the window boxes would make a most excellent nesting material and she came to that window many times while I was doing my Thursday chores (ironing). 

 5/11-Nothing

5/12- When Chloe was born we experienced a heat wave of sorts that gave the weeds a jump start on me, so I've managed to get her napping for a couple hours regularly every afternoon and have been playing "catch-up" the last couple of weeks. 

The perennial beds that border all sides of the house are done, the asparagus bed, the strawberry bed, and the herb garden are all weed-free now. (Not to mention the winter cress.)My game plan is to just go around every day and keep on top of it hoeing under the baby weeds as they emerge. Mulching would help tremendously, but I don't know if I'll get to it this year outside of the vegetable garden. 

Speaking of which, now that I'm done with the aforementioned beds, it's time to tackle it and with ten days to go until our last-frost date, I'm going to be pressed to get it done.
