4/15- Monkey see,....

They were watching as Daddy went to see if the neighbor would permit us to go rock hunting in her creek so we might finally finish the path for the herb garden. She said yes and we found a ton (not literally) of perfect flat rocks.

4/16- Growing sweet potato slips with the method suggested in The Backyard Homestead.

I did a trial run with a couple sweet potatoes from the grocery store (non-organic) last year to see if this would be worth  trying this year and it did wonderfully- a ton of slips grew. (I didn't plant them because it was mid-summer I tried.) So this year I saved the last few small potatoes from the fall harvest. So far, we have 13 slips growing, but I can't understand for the life of me why the leaves don't look right. Instead of being heart-shaped and dark green & waxy like the parent slips, they are more like the first leaves on seedlings. So we'll see. I'll post a "how-to" if the project meets with success.

 4/17- We bought crayons.

May this post serve to document the purchase because I'm curious to see exactly how long until they are all gone.

I give it two weeks. Tops.

4/18- No photo for today.

4/19- Chitting "tatties." Our fifteen pounds of seed potatoes finally arrived. The information sheet included instructions for chitting (or pre-sprouting) them. They said to allow them to "wake up" for a couple weeks before setting them under the light for another several weeks, but they didn't leave enough time before shipping for that so they went straight under the lights.

Coincidentally, I found a potato growing in the garden and decided not to let it go to waste, but rather turn it into (hopefully) five pounds of potatoes so into a container they went.

4/20- Bekah gives Bekki's raspberry sauce an enthusiastic two thumbs up. It afforded me another opportunity to take another sloppy faced photo. We ate brinner that night since I was down all my help

They were all off being political with their Dad & mine.

4/21- A rainy Saturday means nothing's getting done this week outside so off we went to do a little out-of-town clothes shopping.
