Never having heard of the Tales from the Green Valley series, I was delighted to have them brought to my attention by The Deliberate Agrarian. My husband and I enjoyed watching this series several weeks ago and were left in awe by what a challenge it must have been to run a farm in the early 1600's. I heartily recommend watching whether you are a homesteader or not, a homeschooler or not.
As a homesteader though, I was certainly left quite encouraged by how easy we have it these days! Although it often doesn't feel that way at times, watching served as an excellent reminder of how much we ought to appreciate some of our modern conveniences. I also learned quite a bit throughout and especially perked up my ears during discussions of raising grain (there is so much for me to learn and few resources available for a very small scale operation such as mine). One thing is for certain, the feeling of satisfaction one gains from providing for their families needs on the land that surrounds them is timeless.
I'll be posting all of the episodes here over the next few days so that you can view them in a more child-friendly environment than Youtube provides, but I must put a little disclaimer here that in a couple of the episodes there was some inappropriate language in reference to cow dung and chamber pots you might not appreciate. I'll still be allowing my children to watch it though. The educational value throughout far outweighs the trouble of hearing it. I doubt that the littler children will even notice it because of the accent.
