Alright, I've been slacking on getting my girls in the kitchen lately. I must confess that it seems that we've hit a brick wall where it seems that most of the recipes either require ingredients that I don't stock (in a couple cases, I'd have to buy every single ingredient) or require the use of a blender, which I don't have.  There's not much I'm going to do about the blender, but occasionally I'll add the ingredients for a recipe to my shopping list for my girls to prepare.

This week, they made Sunshine Gelatin which was a "healthier-ish" Jello dessert made from oranges, orange juice, and lemon Jello.

I know. You're thinking- "That's only 3 ingredients. What was the hold up?" But orange juice isn't a staple here. It usually gets thrown out as no one drinks it too much. Naturally, our breakfast drink of choice is fresh milk. Personally, OJ makes me all jittery and if that's going to happen to me first thing in the morning, I'd rather it was because I ate a cinnamon roll. And Jello.... the urban legend about roadkill aside, it's pretty much a pointless food, so we partake sporadically.

(No, I'm not worried about her. She's been doing it since she was two.
Like with knives, I've learned to just trust her.

Coupla' oranges, peeled, sliced-

Line the sides & bottom of a glass bowl

Jello mixed with OJ & boiling water-

And poured over the oranges.

I reserved the peels for citrus vinegar & the children like to poke the pieces into  the jar.

The mold was allowed to set in the refrigerator for 6 hours. Maybe it should have gone longer. The whole thing just splashed out. The Jello looked and felt right, but clearly the oranges must have made it need to go longer. Either that or it's official and I'm incapable of properly removing Jello from a mold. I think this makes my success rate about 8%.

There's another one for the kitchen disaster file.
